Talks at Summer Davos, World Economic Forum – Dalian, China

Ryosuke Shibasaki and Ayumi Arai gave presentations at the Ideas Lab – Big data visualization: A New Era in Mapping – at the Summer Davos, Annual Meeting of New Champions (ANMC) 2019, held by the World Economic Forum. Ryosuke introduced a data platform in Japan that allows individuals to control the use and access of their own data. Ayumi presented how dynamic population data obtained from mobile data can facilitate decision making in resource-poor countries using case studies. They discussed possible risks with the audience and explained how the new platform and data sources can impact a data-driven society.
Ayumi also served as a speaker for a panel session – Beyond Data Philanthropy (SDG Data). She discussed how the public-private partnership is critical for utilizing big data from the private sector to improve social welfare, as well as ways academia and NGOs can facilitate the partnership.
