BBL and Workshop at the World Bank – Washington, D.C.

Ryosuke Shibasaki, Apichon Witayangkurn, and Ayumi Arai gave talks on how we can facilitate more optimal access to mobile data and technologies for solving development problems.
Ryosuke discussed how spatial data, such as mobile data and satellite images, can improve the existing approach for understanding human activity, events, and the environment. He also introduced several open platforms, which provide data and tools useful for analyzing various spatial data. Ayumi introduced Dynamic Census projects where our team had developed granular and frequent population mapping data by combining mobile data with the smartphone & HH survey dataset. She also discussed how mobile data combined with slum maps can better inform decisions for the disadvantaged. Apichon introduced our open-source software. The BBL was followed by a workshop where Apichon provided a hands-on session. Participants tried the software on Github using sample data.
